CEO & Co-founder
Nicholas Farandos, Ph.D.
Nick is a technology leader with a proven track record of delivering innovative technologies to solve key market challenges.
Nernst Electric’s oxygen production technology is the second game-changer that Nick has commercialised after previously co-founding Utility Global Inc. to decarbonise the steel industry.

When not working, Nick can be found reading scientific journals, playing badminton, or enjoying time with his 3 kids.

Director of Engineering & Co-founder
Chris Matson
Chris Matson has a MEng University of Cambridge, Mechanical Engineering and 7 years' experience and a track record of value creation in high-temperature electrochemical space, creating and scaling innovative technologies from early-stage R&D through to commercial deployments.

In partnership with Nicholas Farandos, Chris co-founded Nernst Electric, serving as the Director of Engineering.

Research Associate
Katherine Hesse
Katherine is a recent Chemistry graduate from Trinity College Dublin, previously working as a researcher specialising in Green Chemistry. Her thesis focused on Supramolecular Catalysts for the Hydrogen Evolution reaction.
Working as a Research Associate, Katherine works in the laboratory, in development and manufacturing of Nernst Electric's OTM technology. Katherine is excited to apply her chemistry background and the analytical skills she has developed through her studies and career at Nernst Electric.

When not in work, Katherine enjoys hiking, baking and playing camogie.

Researcher
Adi Mihalachi
Adi Mihalachi graduated from Maynooth University with a degree in Biological and Geographical sciences. Her expertise spanned from microbiology to GIS software's, focusing her thesis on the potential of photovoltaic energy systems in neighbourhood communities.
At Nernst Electric, Adi brings her analytical and problem solving approach developed across her scientific training to the research team to assist in the production of Nernst Electric's OTM technology.

When not working, Adi likes to go bowling, paint and gym.

Engineering Intern
Zsombor Marhas
Zsombor is a second-year student studying MEng Chemical Engineering at University College London (UCL). With an interest and keen-ness to explore new energy technologies and making a meaningful contribution to technology development he has joined Nernst for the summer of 2026.
As an intern at Nernst Electric, he assists with the manufacturing of the OTM technology, producing pastes and assisting with testing and experiments.

In his free time, Zsombor enjoys experiencing nature by hiking and trail running. He also loves to travel to explore new cities and experience different cultures.

Special Advisor
Joseph Varley
Joseph Varley has a M.Eng in Materials Science from University College Dublin. With 6 years experience in the materials science and electrochemical field developing and deploying novel technologies, Joseph serves as a special advisor to Nernst Electric.

When Joseph is not working he likes to exercise, watch movies and travel.
